How to call Java Method when select action menu item is clicked

I am new to maximo and I need your help guys.
Can anybody please tell how to call a Java method when select action menu item is clicked?

create a method in the bean class with same name as that of actionid..
make sure you write the method in the same bean class..

or there is one more method.. tell me if the above method doesnt work for u.
