We are planning to upgrade maximo5.1 to 6.
could anybody guide me for the following tasks.
1)how to upgrades jsp since maximo 6 uses xml file.
2)We are using rules manager tool for writting few codes so how we need to copy this one to maximo 6 since it does not have Rules manager.
3)We have some custom application made by cloning work order app so how we need to upgrade this to maximo 6.
Any documents about the plan how to start the upgradation work.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I'm sorry to be the one to give you some bad news but this upgrade is pretty much a manual process for most of your custom code. Undecided

Custom screens will need to be re-created and all of your custom code will need to be reviewed and probably adjusted too.

I don't have experience with Rule Manager so I can't comment on that.

I will also warn you that you will have lots of issues with the upgrade tool. It's a long and hard process.

The good news is that upgrading from 6 to 7 will be much easier when you get around to doing that.

In the company where I work we have both the versions 5 and 6 and, regarding the custom classes, there are not a lot of changes between the two versions.... at least on the "Mbo" side. The most differences are on the UI (User Interface) side, where the Application Beans have to be used instead of the handlerequest classes....
If you are using RulesManager, probably there is a version v6 compatible and some tools that help you to upgrade to it.

About the screens, yes, the bad news that you have to redesign the pages is true (I don't know if there is a sort of automation in the upgrading process), but the good news is that you ha a designer to do it (drag, drop.....).
I hope you did'nt insert code inside your customized jsp pages because in v6 simply you can't.....

At the moment we are not planning to upgrade all our instances to v6, but I think that next year will be good for us to do it......

In maximo 5.2 we used to define actions and handlers in jsp.Since 6.2 does't have jsp so how to include our own handlers and actions in the application.

thanks in advance

You have to create custom java classes which handle your events.

As I stated in my previous reply, I didn't (at the moment) still faced a migration from 5 to 6, so I don't have a list of what can be useful for the migration......

I think that you could need Eclipse to edit/compile/debug your java custom classes, a SQL tool useful to interact directly with the DataBase, a java decompiler (personally I use DJ) to have a look to what the original classes do....in some cases it is very useful !
Maybe TRMNet have also a migrating tool if you need to migrate the customizations made by RulesManager on v5. You have to ask them !

You need also the Java JRE 1.5 on the client machine where you edit the workflow.

About the handlers you customize in v5, the code is quite similar (but not complitely) in v6, but the Action.class files become Beans and you attach them to the "presentation" objects.

I hope this helps !

Looking at the existing code is almost always the best approach. There are always examples of something you need to do. It's just a case of finding them.

Good luck.

For this upgrade, form 5.2 to 6... and after to 7.

Is there a way to transform all the screens?
Or is there a way to use the default screens in maximo 6 or 7 and when I reach maximo 7 i use the screen editor to adjuste them to my current 5.2 reality?

Iīm just looking for a way to do this process easier.

Plus... Do i have to switch to websphere?? or itīs just an option... or is just better because i comes with the max7 installation?

Please Help, The upgrade process itīs been delegated to me.
