Hi all, and good luck with the new board.
I hope to soon be working for a company that uses Maximo, and of course they provide training, but I'd like to get a leg up on the program beforehand.  I've found a bit of info on the net but not enough to give me a really good idea of the program structure and nomenclature etc.  Any ideas where to look?

Thanks

I would start by downloading the documentation. To be honest I'm not even sure where to get it from. There are lots of pdf's available (they usually ship with the product itself). You should be able to find them on IBM's website.

I found this but it's not on IBM's website!! It's the installation guide. Of course if you want to customize Maximo then you might need to know some java. In any case understanding how a java web application fits together is also a good thing to learn.

Thanks.  One suggestion I did find online was that familiarity with SQL is important.   So aside from picking up what I can find regarding Maximo, I'm also using a simple online SQL tutorial.  I won't be programming, only using the program.  So just becoming familiar with the general structure should provide a bit of pre-learning prep.  Or so I think at this point.

Yes,

The important part is doing simple queries, SELECT's and INSERT and UDATES. You will need all of these to manipulate Maximo.

I too am ramping up for a Maximo assignment.  Although I haven't read them yet, I downloaded the following IBM Redbooks:

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg247640.html

http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg247645.html?Open

I am currently reading the PDF documentation for version 7.1 from the IBM Maximo website.

Hope this helps.
Spike.
